This scene was captured by cameraman bnesss, when his car was stopped next to this rickshaw on a Karachi traffic light.
Besides noting the obvious dirty feet, also note the expression on rickshaw driver’s face.

I consider this photo a fantastic one because it catches the plight, hopelessness and face expressions of ‘be-zubaan’ (animals). Note the twig in master’s hand. Sad. I am however unsure if there are 4 monkeys or the photo is retouched to capture four instances of the same monkey. The road island in the background seems a bit disjointed.
‘mizaru, kikazaru, iwazaru’ in Japanese means ’see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil’. The source of this famous saying is a pictorial maxim on a door of the famous Tosho-gu shrine. The shrine is located in Nikko, Japan and door dates back to 17th century. The above photo reminded me of those ‘three wise monkeys’ (except here we have four). I named the 4th one awazaru because he looks pretty ‘awazar’ (bored).
God, You created the night, I made the lamp
You created the earth, I made earthen pot out of it
It is me who created the mirror out of stone
It is me who made elixir out of poison

Today Pakistan celebrates Allama Iqbal’s birth anniversary with the usual lip-service. The key messages of Iqbal seem to have been lost in the maze of officialdom. This is further exacerbated by the hijacking of Islam and politics by vested interests, not to mention the recent events that have shook us all. Iqbal opposed exploitation, Mullahism, emphasised the principle of movement in Islamic thought; and highlighted “Ijtehad” (re-interpretation) of Islamic teachings through a modern parliamentary framework. Alas, all of that is nearly forgotten.
Photo Credits of the following masterpiece belong to Fayyaz Ahmed. As we had mentioned in an earlier post that back of a Pakistani Rickshaw is usually a running commentary on Pakistani Society. In this photo I want to point out few details. One is the broken pair of back lights. Other is a pair of feminine eyes looking out of window blinds. Also Note Geo channel ’s monogram being used as decoration. For our English readership, the text in Urdu means “Don’t be scared. This is my style”
Asad, an actor who is been known for portraying negative, angry young men roles is always out of the media for unknown reasons. For about a decade in the showbiz now, but he is still unknown to many.I love guns and shooting. Whenever I am free I do shooting. I have a complete shooting range on the rooftop of my house.
I am extremely straight forward and frank. I can’t bear wrong things and lies. I can’t bare those people who like to be extra smart. I don’t deceive any one and don’t pretend.
I never plan my future, when ever I will be free, I will make a play, I would try my hand in direction but only if I think that I will be technically sound, I would like to make less mistakes.

LAHORE: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday said the NWFP government had launched the military operation after militants violated the peace deal, stressing the government still believed in peaceful solution of issues.
Addressing a press conference at the State Guest house here, he said involvement of a foreign hand in aggravating the law and order situation in the tribal areas could not be ruled out. “Illegal activities in the tribal areas are primarily being carried out by foreigners, most of whom have come from the Central Asian states,” he added. He also said the Dr AQ Khan issue has been closed, saying nobody, not even the IAEA, had demanded access to the nuclear scientist.
In April 2008, we had a post on Eight Bazaars of Faisalabad, and we presented it as one of the best examples of town planning in Pakistan. We would like to develop this topic into a whole new series about the best planned localities of Pakistan. Among many examples of fine town planning in Pakistan are North Nazimabad Karachi, Model Town Lahore, Faisalabad’s 8 bazaars, Federal-B-Area Karachi, Islamabad Master Plan, Wah Cantonment, and many more in other cities. In today’s post we will cover North Nazimabad, Karachi.
The satellite image below shows North Nazimabad’s 20 residential blocks bound in red polygon. East of NN is Federal-B-Area where as North of NN is North Karachi and Buffer Zone.
A little news item that appeared a few weeks ago was ignored by our all-knowing analysts and TV channels. Reportedly, the Federal Public Service Commission failed to recruit all the vacancies that were advertised for the CSS competitive examination held in 2007. Out of 290 available posts, the number of successful candidates in the 2007 CSS competition was merely 190, leaving almost 100 vacancies unoccupied.
In the photo above Founder of Pakistan Mohammad Ali Jinnah is seen talking to Pakistani Civil Servants (circa 1947)
Last year, too, the government could not get enough number of successful CSS candidates to fill in the available posts and 47 vacancies could not be filled. Such instances have occurred before but given the state of unemployment this is, to put it mildly, shocking.

BARA, Pakistan (AFP) - Pakistan’s government claimed Sunday that it had saved the northwestern city of Peshawar from militants, as troops pushed forward on the second day of a major offensive against the rebels.Soldiers backed by armoured vehicles retook control of the main town in the Khyber tribal district, on the outskirts of Peshawar, and also demolished a building belonging to an Islamist insurgent group, officials said.
The government, under pressure from Western allies over its peace talks with militants, launched the operation on Saturday to counter rebels threatening Peshawar and raiding supply convoys for NATO and US troops in Afghanistan.
