Sarfraz Ahmed is a right-handed wicket-keeper batsman who has played five ODIs for the Pakistan Under-19 team before being called up to captain the side for the U-19 World Cup in 2006 after scoring back-to-back half centuries in only his third and fourth match. With Pakistan winning the World Cup, Sarfraz was duly drafted into domestic cricket.
Although he only managed ten first-class matches in his first full season playing for Karachi and Sind - as well as nine ‘A’ matches and five Twenty20 games - an aggregate of 523 with the help of five half-centuries, with 28 dismissals behind the stumps to go with, did not go unnoticed as Sarfraz was named to face the touring Australia ‘A’ during the second half of 2007 as well as facing the South Africans in a tour match.
Safraz has had a terrific start to the 2007-08 season where he has racked up three fifties in the first five matches with 21 dismissals behind the stumps and is now looking a serious threat to Kamran Akmal’s position as Pakistan’s first-choice wicketkeeper.

She has a commanding presence that fills the screen, a presence that spills out of your television set and dominates your living room. When you meet Naveen Naqvi in person, its even better. The professional presence is very much there, of course, but she also has a friendly look and a relaxed manner that puts you at ease.
We are seated in a glass-fronted cubicle in the middle of DawnNews studios open-floor plan. Young men and women are everywhere. Some are hunched over desktop computer screens while others are scurrying about from one end of the cavernous hall to the other. Despite the bustle, Naveen is as calm as you like, giving unwavering attention and conversing easily.
We have come to associate her with the anchors role on DawnNews, but there is more to Naveen Naqvis talents than meets the eye. As most people are aware, I used to be a model, she says, referring to the first of several things she has tried her hand at and done well. After modelling, I started working on television. I hosted a music show and also acted in a few dramas. My first play was under the direction of Haider Imam Rizvi, and I went on from there.

Former Pakistan legspinner Mushtaq Ahmed has retired from cricket because of his inability to recover from a persistent knee injury. The 38-year-old Mushtaq, who played his last test in October 2003, made the decision after six seasons and three county championship titles with English side Sussex.
“This is a very hard decision for me to make, as I feel that I could possibly play one more year, but out of respect I would only do that if I felt 100 percent,“ Mushtaq said.
In 2003, Mushtaq became the first bowler in five years to take 100 wickets in an English season to help guide Sussex to its first ever-county championship. He again got 100 wickets in 2006 and `07, with Sussex winning the title in both years, before a stint in the rebel Indian Cricket League this year.
“I am going to miss playing for the club greatly,“ Mushtaq said. “I am truly honored to have spent six wonderful years here. There are not enough words to express my gratitude to the club.“
Mushtaq took 185 wickets in 52 tests for Pakistan between 1990 and 2003, with a best of 7-56 against New Zealand in Christchurch in 1995. He fared less well in one-day internationals, with 161 wickets in 144 matches.
He ended his career with a total 1,407 wickets, 598 of them for Sussex.
KARACHI, Leg spinner Danish Kaneria has undergone finger surgery and will be sidelined for six weeks, the bowler said on Thursday.Kaneria, who plays for English county Essex, underwent the operation on Wednesday after sustaining the injury against Worcestershire which forced him to return home with one month remaining for the season to end.
“There was a fracture in my right hand ring finger which I sustained while taking a caught and bowled chance,” he told Reuters.
“I have had the surgery to set it right,” he said. “Hopefully I should be bowling again after six weeks.”
The 27-year-old has taken 220 wickets in 51 tests but has played just 18 one-day internationals since his debut in 2000.The leg spinner was disappointed he could not play on and reach 100 wickets for the season. He took 75 wickets in all forms of the game after joining Essex a month into the season.
“Already Pakistan is not playing a test series this year and we are short of cricket,” he said. “The injury has really come at a bad time.”
Pakistan are without a test series this year after Australia postponed a tour in March due to security concerns. The International Cricket Council (ICC) also postponed the Champions Trophy last week after several teams refused to travel to Pakistan over similar concerns.
